Mortal Kombat (2021)

MortalKombat2021HeaderMortal Kombat (2021)
Released: April 23rd, 2021
Genre: Action
Series: Mortal Kombat
Reviewer: Comie

Intro: Mortal Kombat is one of the most popular fighting game series since the days of the SNES and Genesis. In fact, the original game led to the creation of the ESRB, who sets the ratings for games. Over the years it has evolved from motion-capture sprites to 3-D models with 3-D gameplay to 3-D models with 2-D gameplay, and a few spinoffs. It also spawned two feature films, several different TV shows and cartoons, toys, and comics.

After the success of Mortal Kombat (1995) and then the hardcore failure of the sequel Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997), talk of a second sequel or a reboot was in limbo for ages. After living in development limbo for so long, finally a reboot was decided on, and that gives us Mortal Kombat (2021). There will be spoilers. Read More…

Intro- Stars Dance is a very mature album for Selena. This album showed how much she wanted to get away from the Disney machine. It shows how much an artist can grow past their younger days and make a statement of where she was as a woman and she wanted to be more herself and not an image of what a company needed her to be. This album also showed what kind of music she wanted to keep making in the future of her career. I will be talking about the standard edition and the bonus tracks from iTunes and Target. Get ready to see the Stars Dance and have a party with this record. Read More…

Katy Perry: Witness

Format: CD, Vinyl, Streaming, Digital Download
Release Date: June 9th, 2017
Genre: Pop
Album Number: 4
Reviewer: Keith

Intro: Witness is Katy’s most personal album to date. Katy had made a shift and the public thought it was going to be one thing and it turned out to be a completely different side to what we have never seen. I do think that she took a risk to show her true emotions and show her raw self and basically show Katheryn Hudson and not Katy Perry. But she is an evolving artist and sometimes switching up your image is what you have to do to keep relevancy in the music industry. Plus, she is trying to say that this album is her trying to overcome her demons and be able to live her life to the fullest extent and be happy. Read More…

Intro: ARTPOP is Gaga’s more experimental album. This album shows how versatile she can be. Music was changing and so was Gaga. So, she wanted to go on the trend and make this album. I will say that this is one of my favorite albums that she has ever released and it’s going to be very difficult to change my mind. A lot of people didn’t like the record. Gaga said “ARTPOP was ahead of its time and not everyone understood it. But that was one of the reasons I made the record.” This changed her career and it also showed growth and where she could go with her career. As it says in the song, we could belong together ARTPOP. Blending the two things that Gaga wants to create and give her fans.

Avengers: Endgame

AvengersEndgameHeaderAvengers: Endgame
Released: April 26th, 2019
Genre: Action/Superhero
Series: Avengers
Reviewer: Comie

Intro: Avengers: Endgame is the second to last chapter of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga. It is the culmination of over 20 movies before it, and set to wrap up all of the stories relating to the Infinity Stones and pave the way for the next saga of one of the most successful franchises to exist. If that isn’t enough pressure to be one amazing movie, I don’t know what is. Thankfully, it succeeded meeting my expectations and, in some ways, surpassing them. It has its flaws, but overall it is a fun movie with a lot of memorable characters and scenes. Like Infinity War, this review will mostly be a recollection of my favorite scenes and character moments. There will be spoilers. Read More…

Genre: Pop
Album Number: 2
Reviewer:
Keith (Green) and Comie (Pink)

Intro- The Fame Monster was an instrumental album for Gaga and the future for her career. This album was also following the change of pop music and how electropop was becoming the forefront and everyone including Gaga was jumping onto the trend of being more dance inspired. The album also made Gaga a household name and showed that she was growing with her artistry and kept climbing the charts and showing that she was a Monster when she wanted to show her fame and how everyone could be famous in some way shape or form. The Fame Monster is a cultural icon for the late 2000’s and it was going to show how she would reshape the 2010’s and just say Lady Gaga is here to stay. Read More…

Release Date: August 24th, 2010
Genre: Pop
Album Number: 2
Reviewer: Keith (Green text) & Comie (Pink text)

Intro- Teenage Dream is Katy Perry’s best album worldwide and, in my opinion, her most experimental album from her previous efforts. Her music tastes were shifting as was pop music and she wanted to make an album that went with the change. When 2010 was starting, electropop was coming into the forefront and that is the direction she wanted to go. She saw the success of I Kissed A Girl and Hot N Cold, so she wanted to grow in that space and see what type of album she could make and maybe make her best album to date. In a way, she made this album to show that she can make a shift in music and she can show her haters that she is everyone’s Teenage Dream. Read More…

Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War
Released: April 27th, 2018
Genre: Action/Superhero
Series: Avengers
Reviewer: Comie

Intro: The four Avengers movies are all part of the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, a collection of movies that while they all tell their own stories, are still linked in the same world and tie into each other for one much larger narrative. Infinity War is part one of the biggest event in MCU history; a fight between literally every single MCU hero versus Thanos, the man pulling all the strings from the get-go. Some might even say this event was bigger than Star Wars, but I might get a lot of SW fans throwing things at me. Instead of going through the movie scene by scene, I am just going to briefly talk about my favorite scenes from the movie. There will be spoilers.

Intro-
Thank U, Next is one of Ariana’s best albums to date. Pop music was fusing with hip-hop and trap music. So, Ariana went that way. It was very different than her radio friendly hits. I love this album so much. It took a minute before I finally decided it was her best album to date. We will talk about Thank U, Next came from a hard time for Ariana to get over some hard things in her life and be able to show us how amazing and versatile and fast of a worker she is. I have to also say that when Thank U, Next was announced, everyone had blast saying it and just adapting it to their everyday lives. Read More…

Intro: Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory turns 20 this year (2020) and as a special review, I am going to talk about the album that started it all; the album that began my love for Linkin Park. Intro-
Revival is a statement and a very bold one on that note. I feel like when I hear the word revival, I think of rebirth and reinvent yourself or your image. This is the first album that she had creative control and her first album with a new record label, and she was branching out from the Disney image even more than her previous album. I know when I heard about this album, I was excited because I knew that Selena would deliver an album and I just couldn’t wait for what she had cooking up from the past 2 years between this album and the last album. Revival changed how I looked at her but also how I looked at Pop music and how things are always evolving and changing.

Intro-
Rare is Selena’s best work to date. This album was a long album in the making but it was totally worth the wait. It is different for Selena. I will say at first, I didn’t know if I was going to like the album and it had to grow on me, but I am certain this album is showing us who Selena really is and that she is going to be here for a while. This album is proven to be a shift in showing how Selena is an artist evolving and how we will never see Selena do the same thing twice. I have to say this album is a rare one. I recognize that she is rare but amazing. Read More…

Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia

OperaOmniaHeaderDissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia
Platform: iOS, Android
Released: February 1st, 2017
Genre: RPG
Series: Dissidia Final Fantasy
Reviewer: Comie

Intro: Unlike most other reviews, this game happens to be a free mobile game. I don’t often put a lot of stock into free mobile games since most are overloaded with ads and demand real money to get anywhere. Opera Omnia, however, is one of the extremely rare exceptions that contains no ads, and everything can be acquired in-game by normal gameplay. You would expect that something without ads or requiring money would be pretty low quality, but in fact Opera Omnia is anything but that. Read More…

Taylor Swift: Folklore

Release Date: July 24th, 2020
Genre: Alternative
Album Number: 8
Reviewer: Keith

Intro: Folklore was released 1 day after it was announced. That is very rare for Taylor. The closest thing we had to a limited release was Reputation when all we got was the single name and the cover art of the album and a release date and a music video a couple days later. So, Folklore was a surprise album in a sense. There is a lot to talk about with this record and its release and cover art and single/music video choice. Plus, how no one had any idea that it was coming. We shall dive on into Taylor’s most different album and how in some ways she was teasing the album before it was even talked about, let alone conceived and put out into the world. Read More…

Intro: Final Fantasy VII was the game that drew many people into the series and into RPGs in general and is arguably one of the most popular games of its kind. Now, over 20 years later, after fan demand and advancements in technology, SquareEnix finally brought the game into the current generation.
